When Tears Are Not Enough

Your muscles forget
how to smile,
your synapses forget
their grammar and words
while ghosts walk
barefooted
on your brain
pushing and squeezing
for a wicked kind of pain;
there is no release
without forgiveness
and no forgiveness
without reason;
just cracked glass
that shows
distorted truths
you hammer
with your silent cry
hoping to break it
into pieces
and melt it
into a ball
that rolls over
hope-
death-
and
regret.
