When Tears Are Not Enough

When Tears Are Not Enough

Your muscles forget
how to smile,
your synapses forget
their grammar and words
while ghosts walk
barefooted
on your brain
pushing and squeezing
for a wicked kind of pain;
there is no release
without forgiveness
and no forgiveness
without reason;
just cracked glass
that shows
distorted truths
you hammer
with your silent cry
hoping to break it
into pieces
and melt it
into a ball
that rolls over
hope-
death-
and
regret.
