Eyes of Innocence

If I could but see
into innocence’s eyes
would I, could I
recognize me?
How long has it been?
Since conception or birth?
Was I born with this malice
or was it just learned?
Are malice and wisdom
one and the same?
Aren’t both gleaned through living,
this journey called life?
I’ve pondered these questions
to know my true self
but fall short of the answers
to explain the unknown.
I feel like a child
unblemished and pure
yet at times fear I’m jaded
tainted, impure.
If I could but see into
innocence’s eyes
would I, could I
recognize me?

Why write?
I write because I am:
Driven to distraction by the inequities of the society in which we live.
Motivated by cruelty, abuse, ignorance and indifference.
My intention: To poke, prod and provoke!
"Moderation is a fatal thing. Nothing succeeds like excess." - Oscar Wilde
