Who Am I When No One is Watching?

Who Am I When No One is Watching?

written by: Sulagna Bhattacharjee

Who am I when no one is watching?
A girl, whom everybody keeps their distance from?
Or whom everybody is scared of?

Who am I?
Under the makeup, the mascara?
Am I that beautiful when I am crying in my shower?
Mascara stained over my face as I sob….
The wet hair, the acne marks, the spots —
Am I beautiful then?

When I am having my worst night
And I am finishing my ice cream tub…..
Do they see that?
Do they actually know me?

Do I want them to recognise me as how I am?
Or am I too scared to show?
Will they stay if I show myself…..
My true self?
Do I know myself?

Who am I when no one is watching….
Maybe they will never know.
I will not let them know.
Because I guess I am too scared.

Who am I when no one is watching?
I wonder even if I know……
