Wind Chimes

Wind Chimes

written by: SR Inciardi

I believe it is dissent pushing from the sky
what is warmer and in what is colder under clouds,
the warmth rising, the chilled shadow falling
transformed to wind
stirring across the valley onto the plains
and across the meadow
to rustle the dense trees at its edge
and set a force in motion:
encouraging what continues,
or in overwhelming strength,
what does not. These are my days
formed by the will of the wind,
by its choices I will never grasp
but can only witness
in the movement of branches
and in the quiver of leaves,
the air moving to the place it will go to
despite where it may be unwelcome
my porch-hung wind chimes
hanging from the rafters
an echo of proof telling when it’s come,
and in silence the sound of when it’s gone.
