You Do Inspire

You Do Inspire

Come my love let me leave behind
That unrealistic nonsense of perfect partnership,

We were both a bit ahead or behind each other
Every single day of our four decades together
But my love you were and are the source of my inspiration!

If you had been all that perfect
How on earth would I have penned
All those angry, frustrated sad poems?
Did they not bring me accolades too?

It was a pleasure to watch you tend the little ones
Awkwardly at first, with love for them
Shining in your eyes and whole being
Those vignettes always poured out
As poems or stories from my pen!

Now in our sunset years
We both know each other
As the back of our hands!
Our anxiety to keep each other
Healthy and happy pours into each other
As a silent haiku.

Words hardly mean anything to us these days,
We have learned to dive into each other’s silence
Yes my love you are my source of inspiration
In silence and in sounds
In health and sickness
Till we reach that light
At the end of life’s tunnel!
