Your Name

Your Name

written by: Deirdre Carney

All I want is to say your name
To you one more time
As I come in from the rain after work
Calling you to my table in the bar
Introducing you to a new friend
Woken too early by your radio
Asking for a cup of tea from our cold kitchen
Reaching out my hand to you
When I finally admit I was wrong
In the dark, touching your cool shoulder.
Any of these would do.

Instead, I say your name waking
And falling asleep
To the dark.
