Her Heart’s Dying Ember

Her Hearts Dying Ember

written by: Paula Puolakka

Black and white
is the midwinter’s night:
the bed of Death’s lilies is the tundra.

The icy knight
– steely and bright –
brings God’s light into the darkness.

From a height,
he lowers himself to fight:
to save the soul of the lady he just found.

Her lifeless face is a pretty sight,
but he cannot bite her cold lips:
he places her heart’s dying ember into his chest.
