- Where, do you hail from?
- What is the greatest thing about the place you call home?
Living in the Arizona desert has been an incredible experience. From my front porch, I can see for miles around. We use our five acres as an animal sanctuary for wildlife. We put food and water out for rabbits, birds, coyotes, and ground squirrels twice daily. Interacting with our little “friends” has been a priceless experience. I can’t imagine ever giving it up to live in the city again.
- What turns you on creatively?
Although words are my favorite medium, music inspires me to create more powerfully. Music stimulates my imagination and plays with my emotions. It triggers memories and feelings I had forgotten. It reminds me of people who have come and gone and all the pain and happiness they brought. Music inspires me to reach farther and higher in my creative efforts.
- What is your favorite word, and can you use it in a poetic sentence?
Passion. Passion is the driving force behind the creative arts. Passion is the fuel that ignites the fire of intimacy between two lovers. Passion is the electricity that keeps us alive. Passion energizes invention and innovation. Passion stirs up our emotions into frenzies of love and hate.
Passion burns, hurts, scars
The tender flesh of my heart,
Feeling life again.
- What is your pet peeve?
Political correctness irks me because it’s dishonest. Honesty is at the core of art; if artists can’t express themselves honestly, they may as well give up. All great artists have been rule-breakers, deal-breakers, controversial, and mavericks. Society needs brave people who stand up and fight against conformity, mediocrity, and dullness. And there can be a price to pay for going against the crowd. But true art demands sacrifice.
- What defines Dawn Pisturino?
I’m fiercely independent, self-sufficient, and self-reliant. My freedom is more important to me than anything else. Luckily, I have a husband and daughter who support my need to be free. I worked in healthcare for 24 years and gave my all to my patients. I helped many people, and I’m proud of my career. My experiences and interactions with others have primarily shaped my writing, especially the psychological aspects. I like to write about the inner workings of human beings.
