i cried till i had no tears.
you brought beer.
we drove into the night
and somehow got stranded at daffodil beach.
for a while we just sat there, on the dunes, in silence.

the flying fish arrived at twilight.
shiny silvery birds, bursting into the violet hour.
one by one and thousands by thousands
they died at our feet. a field
of glitterring, first twitching, then motionless, flowers.

„i know it is hard right now,” you said.
„but it could always get worse. don’t fret.”
we cushioned our hearts in the soft ocean breeze
and gazed at the copper sun, rising.
then the fish started smelling and the seagulls came.

„it is hard right now,“ you said.
„but it could always get worse.”
a white sail glows at the horizon
as we turn back and make haste towards the car.
sharp beaks plow
a field of crimson red flowers.
