Rain or Shine

Rain or shine,
Unlatch and hold,
Unfurl the sheltering vinyl
against the angry drops of the storm, or
the indifferent, burn of the sun.
A membrane haven above the Crown.
Human ingenuity of a mobile refuge;
Vulnerable and strong.
Protecting against Nature’s gentler extremes.
No invention yet birthed;
by necessity or inventiveness,
To protect, beneath the sheltering skein;
The temperamental, struggling Nature
In the furrowed Crown, or perspired palm,
That grips the latched rod
through Rain or Shine.
I am Lucretia T. Knight. A writer of the heart, even though my profession is education. I am learning to spread my wings and voice with the undercurrents of literature.
