Last Shred

Last Shred

written by: Margaret Karim

As the sun rises
On a new day
The wind shifts
Blows fears away
I step outside
Abandon night
Peer through eyes
Unaccustomed to light
Gradually they open
Tears flow
Bitter, sweet, salty
Taste of long ago
Before murky shadows
Stole emotions from me
Altered my view
Of reality
Complicated process
Freeing the mind
Learning to revalue
True self left behind
Ready now
Hope sprouts
Confident fingers peel
Last shred of doubt
