My Haven

You, and my love for you
have been the only constants
in this fluctuating universe

Therefore, knowing you as I do
I now have to ask you to find me
a resting place, but not a shrine

Take me to where trees, flowers
colours, and scents flex and flow
a place where you can sit with me

I would be hurt if you forgot me
and quickly moved on, of course
but you can’t forgo life, my love

The hard part is over, now try to count
the hundreds of hours of laughs and hugs
the millions of times we said ‘I love you’

Yes, my heart is silent, but my memory will
not end if I’m held in your thoughts, bound
to your soul, echo in your laughter and smile

Our world has forever followed a cycle of life and death, yet still we find the pain and loss thereof difficult to accept. This is a plea from a loved one to allow a gentle, loving separation.

I am a retired Scottish septuagenarian. I began to write at the start of the pandemic, entering lockdown and the world of words simultaneously. I have many hobbies, but writing helps to fill an insomniac's dark quiet hours. I've been lucky enough to see various poems and short stories published, online and in print.
