The Mask Can’t Show

 The Mask Can’t Show

written by: Saanvi Patra

Why show,
when we can hide,
behind our face,
is left no pride.
We wear our mask
to cover it all,
from happiness and sorrow
excitement and all.

Peering out the window,
seeing jolly kids,
we all once were this.
Life goes on regardless,
but we humans are just too heartless.

Our mask only shows,
a smiling face,
no tears or our race.
We climb so high,
yet still have this,
Alas, our mask can’t take any risks!

What if someone sees us?
We can’t let that happen,
put your mask on,
so none can slacken.

Our true selves,
are embodied behind that mask,
yes, we can see it,
It’s fake and quite small.

We should learn to take our stand,
tilt our heads high a little,
so our masks can fall,
yes, they are this brittle.

Learn to embrace,
your crying face.
It is okay,
not to be okay.

The mask we wear,
is ought to come off,
because it’s you,
not the mask that’s small.
