Eden

Eden

written by: Salem Sparkles

“Reset my patient violence along both lines of a pathway higher.
Grow back your sharpest teeth; you know my desire.
I will travel far beyond the path of reason;
Take me back to Eden. Take me back to Eden.”

— Sleep Token ‘Take Me Back to Eden’

If I slit my wrists open, will I finally be clean?
If I sever the veins:
my transgressions spread out like an altar at your feet.
Will you finally see me?

A diluted rage.
A smothered scream.
If I exorcise my soul
will I finally be worthy?

“Such a good girl” you praise as your knife sinks deeper.
“Let me see all of the shame you hold” you groan as you edge me there.
I would bleed myself bare to keep you.

You are the only one who has seen what the inside of my body looks like.

If I set my sins free:
your bruise exiled from my trophy case,
my lips learning how to taste again.
Will I be immaculate like freshly lain virgin snow?

I’ve re-baptized myself in you so many times I am drowning.
When did the taintless pools of my innocence become dim and defiled?
When did the water turn to blood?
I yearn for Eden.
