Closest to myself. In isolation, I move closer to myself; sadness cloaks my mind like a blanket of lead, shielding me from the world.

I greet every storm; I name each one; I relish the desolation.

Where once stood, in the depth of my soul, a need to understand and be understood, now exists a warm barren land. Now a place for me to be free and feel everything the way it was meant to be.

I protect from all the world this fire I have found in myself, away from all eyes that sought to calculate my thoughts.

With your heart ablaze, warmth will never fade. From no one else will you ever rely.

No longer concealed, nor thoughts of appearance cloud my mind.

Closer to anger, I am myself. Closer to sadness, I am myself.

As unhappy as I am willing to be, I will be equally as free.
