My Halloween Apparitions

My Halloween Apparitions

what do they see in these front yards
something not found in tarot cards
more ghosts and silhouettes
not wanting to owe the ferryman any debts
the rest of them cowers
at the thought of slipping hours
dragging me home

the devil has given way
needing a space to hideaway
these wicked lies
and sleepless eyes
he moves like a ghost
a thought from a dream at most
scaring me home

will the monsters come in the moon’s hallows
will they hide themselves in the fiery shallows
being born from fire and moonlight
tearing through the darkness, running all night
a raging fire that steals my one chance
to escape this deep dark black dance
taking me home
