Tonight on Halloween

Tonight on Halloween

written by: David Haven

The living dead are wandering now
down through the streets of our town.
What’s that I see?
There are witches, three
with wand and cauldron in their hands.

I hear the howl of wolf or fiend.
The moon is full tonight
casting shadows long and fleeting
faster now our heart is beating.
See them ‘round the corner creeping?
Phantoms of the night!

From each window dark and sleeping
Stingy Jack O’ Lanterns peeping.
The eternal wanderer seeking
rest from the endless night.

Spectral clouds drift ‘cross the sky.
Beware! The wind is crying.
Or was that Goblin, Ghost or Ghoul
their restless souls a sighing?

For the veil of death is thin this night
and through that veil
the dead returning
in an eerie Danes Macabre
‘round the bonfires burning!

So all you monsters from the crypt
Unworldly host or witch or ghost
You visit now from realms unseen
Tonight on Halloween!
