The Memory of Land
written by: Jude Neale
how do we endure
when the sky grows heavy,
the light sifted thin,
and today is the day
we hold strength
like a small stone.
we lean into each other,
as trees share roots underground.
we thread our reach through touch.
a quiet communion of fibers and veins,
each holding the other steady.
think of the birds,
how they flew into the unknown
with only the memory of land.
we are like that, seeking what we cannot see,
trusting there’s ground beneath us.
in these small acts of faith,
we braid ourselves together,
And we an unbreakable weave through storm,
a pulse steady and deep as the earth.
this is how light gathers, like dawn—
each of us holding a slender thread of fiery truth,
lifting it until we
blaze against the dark:
a horizon drawn close,
like a mantle.
