Memories

written by: Simon Drake

You cannot pull them out like weeds
Deep rooted where they’re formed
You cannot box them up like presents
They stand out on your lawn
Decades later some still haunt
Sticking like industrial glue
No matter how far you run in life
They run twice as fast as you
Close the door turn the locks
From within they stand and knock
Can you face them, hear them out
Figure out what it’s all about
Those voices needing to be heard
Extremely painful to hear those words
From a very wounded part of you
Feeling vulnerable not knowing what to do
All of that trauma all of your pain
All of that hurt all of your shame
All parts of you deserve your love
Acknowledge the way you really feel
Day by day step by step you’ll get there
In time wounds mend and you will Heal
