The Space in Between

The Space in Between

written by: Vidya Venkataramanan

Reflections of an identity
Stared back at me,
Mirroring the different roles
I claimed to be!
Mother and daughter,
Spouse till the hereafter,
Friend and foe,
From tip to toe,
Roles that played
Out one after another
Like a broken record,
Whirlpooling around!

The cracks did
Separate
The identities,
But the name and form were one.
A hidden seeker
Trying to surface
From all of the above!
Alas!
Donning different hats
The images blurred,
Reflections
Of a lifetime
Encased,
Mirrored,
Tied!

Casting aside
The woman in the mirror,
Knowing that probably
The fragments were what made her whole,
Yet there seemed to be a space
Between these
That beckoned
Despite the pieces
Holding it together!

The fractured slit
Held a pause,
A silence,
A space
That spoke volumes,
A wedge where nothing
Or no one could reach!
Looking inside
The spaces in between,
On the inhale
And exhale,
There seemed
A certain stillness
That was the whole that held
The fragments
Together!

Breathing in
The peace,
I stood,
Mirroring
The Self
In its entirety,
A reflected consciousness,
That was the
Whole!
