You’re Invited

You’re running faster than when you won gold at the Olympics, your gaze fixed on nothingness. As you slow to breathe, your tenth ex’s voice echoes within, reminding you of broken screens and burnt meals. You stop, scream, and your digital wristband beeps with an incomplete message:

“It’s been 25 years. I still recall us playing in the rain, you sneaking into the house for seasoned beef. If you’d stayed back, we would’ve blossomed like the daisies we planted in the backyard….”

You draw deep breaths and smile. “We would’ve….”

Then, the completion:

“You’re invited. I’m getting married in June.”
