Soulmate
written by: Prakash Nagarajan
Let me tell,
of a story strange,
which happened once,
maybe never again,
No one knows,
or will even care,
but there lived once,
a warm little pair,
She was a bird,
of the mountain highs,
while he but belonged,
to hot desert skies,
Ripe juicy plums,
sweet mountain streams,
shady little shrubs,
had still fulfilled her dreams,
And he to the
cactus born,
tanned by heat,
lived a life forlorn.
They say it is,
but God’s own fault,
to have imagined a love,
between sugar and salt,
If you travel long,
there is a place,
where sky meets earth,
they call it horizon,
And she while on a song,
riding fluffy little clouds,
set one day along,
towards horizon, to belong,
And he, to whom,
remained survival first,
set too in search,
parched by thirst,
It was destined,
they should meet,
to fall in love,
a magical feat!
They were now a strange pair,
all love, and only care,
with only thoughts again and again,
in all worlds to, together remain,
That so beautiful a mate,
would be in his fate,
made his head bow,
to the blessing from above,
But if love is beautiful,
life can be cruel,
back with her, at his shelter,
extreme heat made her swelter,
A heartless sun,
scalded her red,
burning her wings,
and made him alive to an unknown dread,
As thirst made her faint,
he hopped and flew,
to get her a sip cool,
from those distant desert pools,
She, to the mountains born,
was true to her vows,
and in it stubborn,
never to return, back to her brow,
And when he returned,
with little water in a leaf,
he saw her still,
to his disbelief,
Covering with his wings,
helpless, he tried to shade,
gently giving sips,
to unmoving lifeless lips,
An unfriendly sun shone
relentless,
with protective wings spread still wide;
the little one died,
and the evening air did blew,
but now only, to cool their bones.
