Inescapable Cruelty Engine

Behold! The latest injustice
Inundating our infinite feed
Enter the keyboard crusaders
Feeding on a voracious need
Reality shifts in slow motion
Belief dictates the view.
We don’t escape the horror
We just pretend that it’s new.
Right and wrong? Subjective!
We see what we want to believe
Through red or blue-tinted lenses,
Even truth learns to deceive.
We’ll scream ourselves raw just the same
Fighting perceptions we can’t debate
Entrenched in a blind of our own design
While tragedy refuses to abate.
So polish up your rejoinders
Dust off your sharpest contempt
It’s just another day of absurdity
That none of us is exempt.
Joseph Mannino is a Tampa Bay-based poet who had a poem turned into a song at the tender age of nine and performed for the entire school in Upstate New York. Every day since he has been spent chasing the breakout success of "Roller Skates." He has recently had several poems published in several anthologies. In complement to his passion for writing, he loves to run, climb, and cook.
