Mother
written by: Srinjaya Lahiri
To my loving mother,
It’s because you exist on earth, the world feels the way it does for me.
I don’t know any other way to live, but the way I do now.
Rest assured, you are always there for me.
Standing tall like a tree that I can quickly run to for shelter, whenever in distress.
You offer your valued guidance in the hope that I will be fine soon.
Because all that you care for is my happiness.
There are times when our views don’t align.
I spar.
I know my tone is often hurtful.
I am rude and belligerent.
But when in a saner state of mind, I can’t help but wonder why my harsh behaviour is reserved only for you?
Is it out of the firm conviction that you won’t judge me ever?
Because all that you care for is my happiness?
