Bee’s Gold
written by: Brandon Curry
What is honey?
Ask young, ask old.
What is honey,
if not the bee’s gold?
But honey is never
something so simple.
It is the full moon
on an October night.
The sudden blessing
of empty space
on a crowded flight.
It is warm sand
when the wind forgets its bite.
The taste of defeat
after a hard-fought fight.
The last light of sunset
resting on your skin.
Kind words spoken
until a broken heart
learns how to grin.
Honey is the sweet spot —
that fragile turning
when everything changes.
The moment a storm breaks
and a rainbow
follows the rain.
Honey is her name —
the woman
with whom I grow old.
The rest
is just bee’s gold.
