The Day She Fully Embraced Herself

The weight of the world was always hard on her
and no matter how hard life was she kept going,
no matter how dark her days were, she kept shining
until one day she could not contain it any more.
She cracked open and all her pain spilled out
and the bits and pieces were all around her.
She looked at them slowly one by one,
sorted through them gently and methodically.
She discarded the painful, unwanted pieces,
kept what she wanted, close to her heart
and watched herself in the mirror
as she blossomed into a strong,
colourful, beautiful, vibrant flower.
That was the day she fully embraced herself.

Teri Petz was fascinated by poetry since she was a little girl, before she could read and was happy when she recited poetry. In school she realized that writing was easy for her and had a natural flow when she wrote. Teri self-published her poetry books, A Piece Of Her Heart in 2020 and Moments Of Grief in 2021. Teri organizes and is the MC of Owl Poetry, a monthly open mic event at the Owl Acoustic Lounge in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. She also hosts Zoom open mic events, Poems From The Heart once a month. When she is not writing she swims in the rivers and lakes or hikes, explores and spends as much time in nature as she can.
