Mortification
written by: Mario William Vitale
For I have mortified the flesh
When anguish is too much to bear
Ah then, to be a grounded clod
Unthinking, part of everywhere
Trees yield their leaves unto corruption
Uncomplaining, from life’s wheel
A sparrow joins itself to dust
It is man’s curse to know and feel
Darkened portals in my inner mind’s pier
strange hallucinations of the death of a loved one exposed in my mind
Each of us is headed in the zone all alone
for the furtherance of the mind as if in a temptress as being blind
personifications of deaths equation in the twilight of my skull
