Self-Loathing
written by: Pranjal Srivastava
The drunken fool returned to his hell
All soaked up in restlessness and anxiety
He couldn’t hold on to anything or anyone
Buffoon in public and a self-loathing thesaurus in private
The man just couldn’t control anything in his life!
Desperate for love and compassion
He tried holding onto others but no one ever held him
He cannot even blame any of them.
Despicable, impertinent, pompous bastard he was!
Came into his room and looked into the mirror as the words started shedding from his eyes
The words which no one ever tried to read
He smiled at himself and thought of ways in which he could celebrate and sulk at the same time
Opened the drawer, pulled a bottle of whiskey
Started pouring himself one drink after another
While the smoke from his mouth made the room synonymous to his life, blurred!
Talking to the cigarette,
What started as the perfect enunciation turned to slur by the end
Hopelessly and relentlessly trying to numb his mind
The fool fell asleep again on the floor!
Almost empty bottle, half burnt cigarette
unwiped tears on his face
He fought one more night and stood defeated!
