Metaphor, Metamorph

Under pressure, her bones crushing,
she waits for diamonds
only for the calcium dust to be blown away
scattered at sea, collecting underwater.

In the flames, her skin searing,
she hopes to take flight
but the feathers and ashes inspire other’s spells
calling in ceremony.

Encased, her spirit dormant,
she longs to sprout wings
but her shell buries itself to root deep
and grow tall instead allowing her to stretch.
