Shallow

Shallow

Gaining your acceptance
was not an easy shimmer.

As the drops fell from Heaven,
reflections radiated the river

& I tried to find your face
on the other side of the mirror,

but the deepness
I’ve been searching for,
was way too shallow.

Your version of love
only works with cocktails.

& the glitter gained
doesn’t always turn into gold,

& I’m drinking cold gin,
wondering what could have been

but it was too hollow;
the river’s too shallow.
