Ye Birds On My Window Sill

Ye Birds On My Window Sill

I ask of ye birds
That visit me daily
Ye who I have fed every meal
O’er days, months and years
I plead with thee

Do me a favour, ye
And fly to yonder shore
Where my child hath gone
To make her name
Honour thy debt and carry my love

On your feathered wing
Perch upon her window sill-
She’ll know.
Go! Ye birds that chirp gaily
O’er my ledge; fly, hurry

To my child,
who waits forlorn
for a reminder
of home.
