A Lover’s Agony

A Lover’s Agony

written by: Pramod Rastogi

In the twilight’s tender glow,
Where shadows stretch like wistful arms,
I sit, smitten by the absence of your embrace,
A wound carved deep, raw with longing,
Etched into the chambers of my lovelorn heart.

The maiden’s sweet whispers of spring,
Once fragrant with promise,
Now drift as hollow echoes,
Their nectar gone, their bloom
Fading into the silence of this forlorn hour.

I am drunk on the memory of your passion,
Each thought a drop of bittersweet wine,
Filling the chalice of my waiting,
A spellbinding mix of fancies
That shimmer, then dissolve,
Leaving only the ache of forever.

Emotions surge like waves,
Pulling me into a sea of dreams
Where your slender hands
Trace constellations across my soul,
Only to vanish as dawn breaks,
A cruel betrayal of night’s tender lies.

Fragrant winds carry your name,
Whispered in the language of the stars.
I reach for you, for the warmth of your gaze,
But time gallops away, unyielding,
Leaving me a prisoner of this embrace,
Not yours, but the cold arms of solitude.

How long must this agony stretch,
This unbroken vigil of my love?
Forever, if that is what it takes.
For even in the anguish of waiting,
There is sweetness,
A reminder that my heart beats for you.
