A Recycled Tragedy

A Recycled Tragedy

We’ve got it bad and they’ve got it made
It’s not what we asked for, it’s just what we got
Giving up things we didn’t even know we wanted
letting the nights run into our days
doing nothing and letting the void grow

Are we big enough for this life?
Destruction is so easy and creation is so much harder
I’ve left pieces of myself in places I never should’ve been
But as long as you keep moving forward your fears stay behind you

How much of us is borrowed?
Made of dust and shadows, we’re parts of the sky on loan to a body
The last light to go out, just a memory of the universe
before time or language had a name

Are we a recycled tragedy?
Have we been here before?
Have we even been living here all along?
I’ve got a story and I’m trying to tell it right
without all the beautiful words that weren’t meant for people like me
It sounds like sad songs on repeat
and days that never come
Sometimes all we can do is let time take its toll
play the part and forget the lines
and wonder if this story will ever find its end
