A Tree Grew In Brooklyn

A tree grew in Brooklyn

with the passing of years

the roots long and deep

the trunk straight and strong

A girl in her teens

daydreamer and shy

blossomed and bloomed

as a flower in Spring

She drank in the scenes

of her beloved Brooklyn

committing to memory

every feature all things

The Greystones The L

the pool the roller rink

John’s Ice Cream Parlor

and summer days at the beach

Long hours of reading

turning pages with love

of musical training

with Romano and Rausch

A tree grew in Brooklyn

the girl in her teens

growing taller and stronger

with the passing of years

The days quickly turned

like the sheets of great books

her limbs stretched like branches

her memories as prolific as leaves

She blossomed and bloomed

as the flowers in Spring

giving flight to her mind

like a bird on the wing

The tree was transplanted

the girl sadly moved

but the roots long and deep

never could be removed

For no matter how far

 no matter the years

she will never forget

Brooklyn lives in her dreams
