A Witchy Night

A Witchy Night

written by: Linda Sparks

The crisp leaves of autumn tangle my feet
As I run swiftly down the darkened street
Striving ever for that elusive trick-or-treat.
In my witchy clothes I could easily fly
But tonight, I’ll not even take to the sky
My neighbors would surely wonder why.
They are grown-ups and have no care
For the things I see that are never there
And the magic I wield, they must beware.
They cannot believe what they do not see.
That I am a little girl, but a witch-to-be.
It is entirely possible they do not even know
When the living pass and where they go
But I understand and even see their glow.
Ever since I opened my eyes in birth
I have been grounded to Mother Earth.
And filled with love and joy and mirth.
Witches are not as dark as the moon’s glow.
This is the greatest truth that I know.
So, give me those candies before I go.
And I’ll not ride the skies, I’ll stay below.
Just for a little while as I am merely a child
But soon I will not be able to resist the wild.
