All Too Much

All Too Much

written by: Edward L. Canavan

it is not the only the sorrow
that weighs some down

but the sight of joy
that may trigger the fall

the angels seen elsewhere
that no longer visit our hells

the gentle caress
that we see but cannot feel

the kindness between strangers
that should bring a smile
but leaves us cold

the realization
that what we ache to be, to have, to hold
is so far beyond us

that it hurts just to bear its witness.
