An Old Spirit Found

a small rectangular
box
wrapped in plain
brown paper
such perfect
crisp folds
green, red, and white ribbon tied
then lightly pulled
one corner lifted – torn
with brilliant inhalations
elated gasps
filled the room
eyes widened
hands on cheeks of smiling faces
the room overflowed
with joy
and an old spirit
found
