Archives of What Wasn’t Said

written by: Kelly Doheney

Calling out from the grave,
a journal was left behind.
Words that were never spoken.
Words that were loving and kind.

“I love you,” I never heard.
Your earthly words cut deep.
Your death was my freedom
from secrets I had to keep.

“What happens in this house,
stays in this house,” you said.
It was power and control
you drilled into my head.

An important person you were,
looked up to by so many.
You demanded perfection.
I’d be rich if your words were but a penny.

So, you see, what I found in your journal
was a shock because I never knew
that you had the capacity to love.
Your message beyond the grave was a different view.

Why couldn’t you speak those words
that you kept hidden from everyone?
Your actions spoke louder than words,
I felt like no one.
