Bleached Shadows

Bleached Shadows

written by: Freya Pickard

bleached shadows reveal
these stilted masks
that hide the truth
even from ourselves

mercurial
I veer from
dreaming of your neck
between my jaws
to yearning for your body
to align with mine

the safety of lunacy
no need to think
no room for reason
just instinct and reaction

sable shadows bemuse
occlude vision

opposition attracts;
my obsidian soul
your coal bright passion
simultaneous submission –
point taken

silver moonlight
makes a pallid cast
of your living flesh

dangerous fire
inside our hearts;
consummation

one way or another
by dawn
you or I will be dead
