Cloudburst In The City

Cloudburst In The City

written by: Jackie Shaffer

Nightfall caressing the harbor
5th Avenue comes alive
Rain unyielding, drenched, splashed
Neon signs illuminating every crevice
Individuals scurrying to all sides

Fusion of languages reverberating
Passing buildings shadowed and vacant
Heels clicking on slippery rippled glass
Umbrellas steel pointers nudging
Street lights changing, a constant flash

Streets of sloshed feet, pounding pavements
Traffic lights red, yellow and green
Public transport, honking horns, rides hailed
Jumbled scene

Meters paid by plastic or coin

Towering thin silhouettes scattered throughout
Framed glass windows, high, aglow
Beacon of lights for visitors below

Hustle and bustle, disorganized
Rumbles of sky, crackling bites
Impatiently waiting days sunlight
