Finding Light in a Black Hole

Used to have this recurring dream as a kid
a dream that shook me to my very core
a dream of what if there were no life on Earth
no life anywhere in our universe
no life in any universe, any galaxy
a dream of a black hole
an all encompassing black hole
that was all there is or ever would be
no humans, no animals, no aliens
no life anywhere, no life everywhere

perhaps it was this dream that led me to poetry
to write to prove I am alive
words as hypotheses to existential crises
words to attempt salvation or at least elation
words that stand the test of time
words to illuminate black holes.
