Nothing in this life is free
It all comes at a cost
Whether it’s blood, sweat, or tears that are shed
Or countless lives that are lost
Many want to erase the past
A shameful act that’d be
Nothing teaches a better lesson
Than those of history
Views will always differ
Not all will feel the same
But variations can unite us
When respect is part of the game
Core values are so simple
Though many fail to see
To do unto others
As you’d have done to thee
Remember those who fought
To secure our way of life
Never forget their conviction
Honor their sacrifice
Support those currently fighting
To preserve our liberty
In the name of a united nation
We pray will always be free

Laura is a contemporary romance author who also enjoys poetry and prose as a way to express emotions and views. A veteran of the US Army, she's also a wife, mother, and grandmother, and a retired dental hygienist of twenty-four years.
