Give and Take

I come to you with opened arms,
to keep you safe from any harm.
I shield your heart with my heartbeat,
and fill your lungs with air I breathe.
I close my eyes give yours a rest,
then run through time and pass all tests.
I run in place, wait while you crawl,
to keep my pace and catch your falls.
We stay in place to catch our falls,
and always run we never crawl.
We get straight A’s on all our tests,
so we can laugh till we need rest.
We play on earth and watch her breathe,
dance to the sound of her heartbeat.
We are both safe away from harm,
emitting light with opened arms.

Grace Y. Estevez-Reddy has always had a passion for poetry. While students were paying attention to their teachers, Grace was staring outside the window and writing poetry to describe her emotions. A natural empath with an appreciation for the meaning behind everything, she enjoys imagining what it would be like to walk in the shoes of others. Grace lives in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina with her husband, children, and two dogs.
