Hidden Wishes
written by: Ifeoluwa Philips
Hidden Wishes within, my wishes hide,
Childlike dreams that softly bide,
Calling back the vanished days,
To rewind a child’s tender gaze.
Chasing petals, butterflies in flight,
On green meadows bathed in light,
No weight of reason, no trace of care,
Pure happiness blossomed there.
Cradled by a carer’s gentle hand,
Fairy tales spun in a flimsy land,
Mind adrift, to eat and sleep,
Choices made where dreams run deep.
Angels’ lullabies in starlit air,
Mother’s voice, a soothing prayer,
Dancing free, no drum to guide,
Moments I thought would never subside.
Now grown, I stand, my thoughts my own,
A carer now, yet feel alone.
Right or wrong, how can I tell?
Instinct sways where motives dwell.
I yearn for joy like days of old,
When every odd was fun, not cold.
No swing in gardens waits for me,
Nature’s play now mere memory.
Solemn thoughts haunt day and night,
A restless mind, no peace in sight.
Dreams have shifted, strange and new,
Oh, how I wish these hopes came true.
I long to pull the future near,
Where dreams of grandeur might appear,
A life of ease, where wishes blend,
And hidden hopes find their sweet end.
