I AM HERE (OR THERE)

I wrote a thousand words to you
Every line lit my darkened path
Fields in front of me shimmered at dusk
Glowing lumens softly did sway
Heartfelt were the words I wrote
I anchored myself deep into them
Then slumbered until you found my clues
Those bonds safe, showing clearly each step
I set out in haste to meet the day
As for you, trailing behind in thought
Over distant oceans, mountains high and far off travel
You read the signs, tracked as far as you could
Then found my words as footprints in the rain
No longer my companion, you forged ahead
Losing my words, losing my name
You were the child and I the plaything
As I am now, then and ever.
