I Only Ever Wanted To Be A Poet

I Only Ever Wanted To Be A Poet

written by: James Walmsley

As I sit here and contemplate, I glance at the clock and know I’m going to be late.
You see I have a job pulling levers and pushing knobs.

A puller and a pusher is what I am, not a mover not a shaker not a baker not a cabinet maker.

I dream a lot, I dream about righting the wrongs, then my mind wanders and starts to ponder about words and music, tea and biscuits, long-legged ladies in leotards and tights, then I come to and I’ve wronged all the rights.

Endeavour is my name, endeavouring is my game.

Before I was a puller and a pusher.
I was a meeter and greeter,
then a gamekeeper’s beater.
I worked in a store.
opening and closing doors.
I worked down the market.
Fogging carpets.

My endeavouring knows no bounds,
And I know you would know it,
But I only ever wanted to be a
POET.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

I really did only ever want to be a poet.
