In the twenties
Love sweeps up
Soul and everything
In a tornado
Uproots everything
In its path
Life is shattered
Nothing is saved
In the thirties
Love fades
An eclipse
Splendid
Its transience
Darkness
A premonition
Of burning pain.
In your forties
Love is a bird
On the train
That sets off
On impatient wings
A slender line
On the water
A cold reminder
That nothing endures.
In the fifties
It remains
A faint light
Under the door
The promise of an escape
From the everyday
A golden feather
From a dream
Tempting.
