Lament
I Color You Rose
written by: Jan Niebrzydowski
I lament over your loss
A thousand times
A thousand times again
But morning brought a silhouette
Of haloed hand
That showed another way
And all at once, your essence filled
A room stained grey with the
Tears of shadows that crawl upon
The wall, like ants with no home
And Byron, Shelley, and Keats murmured
And I heard them so clearly
All saying in unison
Do not lament
And my shielded eyes opened to see
The newborn pinkness of your smile
And it began to grow and arch around me
Until it swirled in radiant tornadoes of
Cherry blossoms… sweet-smelling and
Daringly refreshing the grey until
Once again, all I could feel was
The beauty that was you
And I did not lament…for now
Perhaps that is all we may ask for
A moment
In the arms of the rose
