Laughter in Sorrow

Laughter in Sorrow

written by: Linette Rabsatt

tears fall
and yet I call
your name
hoping you’ll heal
and be better
than the man
I claim
to know
because
I feel I can’t grow
without you
I know
you’re in pain
and again
I am so sorry
so I pray for
your recovery
but as the doctors
do their discovery
I can’t help
but smile
even for a little while
because
I remember your warmth
I experienced your
smile
even with your corny jokes
and odd style
the way you tickled
my feet
so much
that I fell off
my seat
that one moment
made me stop and laugh
it actually
gave me distraction
from watching the graphs
so even as they consider
pulling the plug
I’m nonchalant
because I’m reminiscing
about us rolling
on the rug
but subconsciously
I’m hoping my
laughter
will wake you up
praying
I’ll get enough
sheer dumb luck
and my best friend
will give me more days
of laughter
and I don’t have
to wait to
chat with you again
in the hereafter
