Little Soldier Boy

Little Soldier Boy

written by: Quazi

The leaves of the Fall
And the waves on the shore
Call my little soldier
Way back home

Sticks and stones
Can’t break your bones
The mother’s heart knows
The soldier is coming home

Miles away from the Earth
Inside the enemy ground
Little soldier boy
Plays with the hounds
Then comes the storm
With terror in the sky
My little boy writes to me
Writes that the nature lied

Months and months passed
My boy was against the sand
No dove knocked on the window
No letter were in this wrinkled hand

He loved to paint skies
Loved seeing the whales dive
He loved to sleep in my arms
While I sing him a lullaby
He had a wooden boat
Played a golden flute
He would walk his father’s toes
Stand straight and learn to salute

The letter arrived, one day
Clouded with emotions, so deep
It says,”If I fail today, Mother
Will you sing me to sleep?”
Days later, they said
They have won the war
Some were buried deep
Some came back with scars

This mother’s heart waited years
For her brave boy to return
The Moon said he was safe
“He is seeing you,” said the Sun

My little soldier boy
Rests under the stone
But only a mother knows
He is marching back home
